"You want the truth?" An ugly sneer twisted Lex's lips.

The expression chilled Clark, but he nodded.

Lex laughed harshly. "The truth is... you can keep your secrets. I don't care any more."

Clark looked stricken.

"Don't act so surprised. You knew how I felt about friendships built on lies and deceit." Lex's tone was glacial. "And that's all we've ever had."

"No!" Clark denied fiercely.

"Yes," Lex insisted. "If you'd trusted me..."

"I wanted to." Clark's eyes pleaded for forgiveness.

"That's not good enough, Clark," Lex said with finality.

"Please," Clark begged, but Lex walked away without looking back.
