FORGIVENESS

by Karen Colohan

Lex stands outside the LuthorCorp building, watching numbly as everyone leaves him. Coat flapping around his legs in the chill breeze, Lex can't remember when he last felt so completely alone.

Another gambit in the endless game he plays with his father, that's all he intended. No one else was meant to be involved, no innocent bystanders.

Suddenly, Clark's in front of him, eyes dark and hurting.

"Your mother..." Lex hears the guilt in his voice.

Clark's expression softens. "She's fine." The hand on Lex's shoulder is a balm. "Are you?"

Feeling the tension ebb, Lex smiles. "I am now."
