Once, he'd hated the red curls framing his face. Girlish, people would whisper behind his back. Now they've gone and he's the bald freak instead, but Lex is learning to take his misfortune and turn it into strength.

His mother's hair is soft and red and, on her, it's lovely. The vibrant colour adds a blush to her pale skin, helps him forget she's losing her battle against illness, day by day. Still beautiful, though, and Lex wants to fix the image of her most distinctive feature in his mind. Knows that, soon, memories will be all he has left.
